Highly motivated organizational leader with expertise in social justice-centered grant making, curriculum development, and facilitation in diversity, inclusion, and equity as seen by spearheading over 100+ high profile in-person and remote national conferences. Dr. Yu is a leader in learning development and strategist. Dr. Judy W. Yu is the Founding Director of REACH® an education consulting firm based in New York City that utilizes critical multicultural theory to conduct research and practice on the challenges of curriculum and instruction in order to create change. REACH® was founded in 2010 as a site for diverse communities to come together to develop research, dialogue, & organize on areas of social justice and ethnic studies. Dr. Yu is the Principal Investigator for the Spencer Foundation Conference Grant 2023-2025 entitled "Building Racial Solidarity in Black & Asian American History Across K-20 Education. She is the Co-Founder of the Black & Asian Solidarity Collective and serves as a Commission Member in CUNY's Black, Race, & Ethnic Studies Initiative. She is an active faculty member at Queens College, School of Education. At Queens College, she organized an inaugural national conference on Race, Identity, & Liberation: Transforming K-12 Education & the Academy for the Greater Good: https://race-identity-liberation.carrd.co/ Her work has been widely published in the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education (2022); The Peabody Journal of Education (2022); Teachers College Press (2020), Center for Asian American Media (2017), and Rowman and Littlefield (2013). Dr. Yu is a recipient of several honors and awards including the Education Research Project Service Award, American Educational Research Association (AERA); Outstanding Dissertation Award, Research on the Education of Asian and Pacific Americans, AERA; Elihu Rose Fellowship, Columbia University; Spencer Foundation Research Grant; President’s Diversity & Community Initiatives Grant, Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Yu received her Doctor of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. She received her M.Ed. from UCLA, where she was a first grade teacher in Los Angeles, California. She designed and implemented an Asian American studies curriculum and created an Asian American History museum with elementary school students. Dr. Yu's educational activism began during her undergraduate years at Boston College.
