Leep Fellowship

Dharamsala, India

I studied meditation, mindfulness, and forgiveness with Tibetan Monks for 6 weeks in order to construct a model of stress reduction for western cultures. This model was based off of the many forgiveness (forbearance) practices the monks use. It defines two kinds of stress: emotional stress and task stress. In order to achieve the ultimate goal of this model - reducing overall stress - it first aims at reducing the emotional stress in one's life. It does this through specific meditations practiced by monks that facilitate the growth of personal reflection and compassion. By controlling and consciously subsiding any trigger that can spark strong emotions like anger and fear, one's emotional stress will slowly be reduced and it will leave much more mental bandwidth to plan, prioritize, and execute any tasks that need to be completed. The bottom line of this model is based on reducing your emotional stress in order to create more room for other stressors to be relieved.
