I like to think of myself as a starving artist. Really, I'm just a hands-on penny-pincher. While I wasn't born a geologist, I've found my knack for pragmatism helpful to my field and lifestyle. I like to be efficient and "live my life in fast-forward". Taking on field work and analysis provides me stimulus for active engagement, and exploiting my focus in an office setting speaks to some money-making moves. I love that I get to exercise my strengths and education from wherever I'm deployed. Outside of a professional environment, I employ a pragmatic mindset when approaching home projects and hobbies. Growing up, my family was very hands-on as well - recycling materials and revamping our home from the inside. My dad and I redid the siding on our house. My mom taught me to sew and alter clothing and fabrics to extend the life of our everyday objects. Sometimes, a seemingly simple project may lead you down a rabbit hole of challenges. I know that my skills and values (along with my pet rabbit (and cat for that matter)) prepare me to tackle any list of obstacles.My lust for logic encourages me to seek out advice when I find myself stuck; Call for someone to send down a shovel when I could use a hand. I learned to love the dirt by digging my way out of rabbit holes one solution at a time. I certainly won't pay someone to do a job I can do myself, but it helps to have a support system to advise and assist when it comes to difficult projects, whether they arise on-the-clock or not.
