Member of UST/AS Cohort 16, a supplemental program/curriculum designed to produce a cadre of well qualified health care professionals through prevention and primary care in Connecticut's urban underserved communities.Related Activities:Home & Community Care Project participant (Spring 2023)- Worked with interprofessional team to conduct a comprehensive home visit for an especially complex patient residing in inner city Hartford, CT- Identified and presented various community resources to assigned patient and their primary care physician to address the social determinants of health impacting patient’s overall health- Worked with team to create a poster entitled “Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Home and Community Care Program -- Developing care plans and patient resources to address the Social Determinants of Health” that was presented at the UConn sponsored Health Disparities and Institutional DEIJ Research DayWomen’s Health Interest Group member (September 2022 -- April 2023)-Worked with interprofessional team over the course of the 2022-2023 academic year to learn about the intersection of women’s health and public health- Participated in various activities, including journal clubs, guest speaker sessions and other group activities- Acted as group moderator during the 2023 Interest Group Summit to help present a poster entitled “Women’s health as it relates to public health: who is affected and how can we improve outcomes?”

- Worked with Hugh Blumenfeld, MD, PhD to create new, case-based curriculum for Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars program about the importance of incorporating palliative care into primary care to improve quality of life in patients with chronic illnesses- Attended several “hospice team meetings” at Eastern Connecticut Health Network to learn about the roles of the professionals involved in caring for individuals with chronic diseases at the end of life- Conducted a literature review about current educational offerings for health profession students about the topic of palliative care- Created case studies to teach health profession students about the incorporation of primary palliative care into care provided for patients of different different backgrounds and with different diagnoses

- Assisted graduate students working on a National Institute of Health funded study investigating the resilience of cancer survivors, titled the Y.UCan Cancer Survivorship Study- Worked with other lab members to maintain functioning of a large-scale study, making sure all materials received are properly processed- Made regular contact with survey participants via email and phone conversation to thank them for their participation in the study and make sure they had everything they needed to complete survey procedures- Co-authored a poster presented in the Frontiers 2020 Research Exhibition entitled “The Presence of Gender Misconceptions in Women Testing Positive for BRCA 1/2 Genetic Mutations”- Worked with graduate students to create a manuscript investigating COVID-19 news consumption and its impact on distress in university students with pre-existing mental health conditions

- Assisted Ryan Troha (Ph.D. candidate) to run operant learning tasks in rats and investigate the importance of social learning in communal animals- Trained rats in operant conditioning task and helped administer various pharmacological modifications to assess effects on learning- Participated and contributed in weekly lab meetings- Presented poster entitled “A novel social learning task in rats and the use of deep learning to analyze behavior” at Northeast Undergraduate and Graduate Research Organization for Neuroscience 2020- trained rats in a Morris Water Maze task known to measure spatial learning and memory- analyzed the effects of temporary inactivation of the dorsal hippocampus using Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADDs) through the use of behavioral tracking software and histological analysis- Presented poster entitled “Effects of hippocampal inactivation with DREADDs on water maze performance” at Northeast Undergraduate and Graduate Research Organization for Neuroscience 2021

- Assisted Jacob Kasper (Ph.D. candidate) assemble a large data set to analyze what environmental, biological and socioeconomic factors have affected rates in recreational fishing to improve/inform future management practices - Used government search engines and pointed internet searches to tabulate recreational fisheries regulations for 27 regions within 21 states along the coasts of the United States- Attended and participated in regular lab meetings - Presented an article entitled “The large scale impact of offshore wind farm structures on pelagic productivity in the southern North Sea”

- Completed a semester long training course to learn about what it takes to become a successful peer facilitator for honors undergraduate students- Collaborated with another undergraduate honors student to help 19 freshmen students acclimate to college life during their first semester, both inside and outside the classroom- Assisted Dr. Valerie Duffy within the Allied Health Sciences Department at the University of Connecticut during her course teaching students about the multi-disciplinary power of taste in the modern world- Created a curriculum with a co-facilitator and attended weekly practicum sessions to learn about becoming better mentors for the students
