Julia A. B. Pearson, Esq.Program Director for Permanency Mediation ServicesI am the Program Director for Permanency Mediation Services.  I am responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, including managing referrals from the Juvenile, Probate and Family Courts, training the permanency mediators, and coordinating all program activities. I also co-authored an article with Retired Probate and Family Court Judge David Sacks, which appeared in the Mass Bar Journal (November/December Section Review issue), explaining the benefits of permanency mediation. From 2005-2010, prior to joining Plummer Youth Promise, I was the Program Director for Massachusetts Families for Kids, which was the lead agency for the Juvenile and Probate and Family Courts’ statewide permanency mediation program.  I was trained as a permanency mediator in 2000 during the state’s first roll out of permanency mediation in the courts.  I helped with mentoring and training new mediators until hired as program director.  I first started mediating family, custody and divorce issues in 1998. Helping couples resolve child custody and visitation issues allowed children the benefits of loving both their parents. This has been a mission of mine, to get children out of the conflict and allow families to heal.I am an attorney who has practiced in the Massachusetts Juvenile and Probate and Family Courts since 1993, representing children and parents. I focused on Care and Protection and Termination of Parental Rights cases.  My work in the Juvenile Court included conducting Court Investigations and being appointed as Guardian Ad Litem for children in medical, educational and placement issues.  I also practiced in the Massachusetts Appeals Court representing both parents and children in appeals of their Care and Protection or Termination of Parental Rights cases.  I began representing children in Cook County, Illinois at the Public Guardian’s Office in 1989, where I worked on abuse and neglect cases as the child’s attorney and guardian ad litem. I obtained my Juris Doctor Degree in 1988 at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  I grew up in Needham Massachusetts.  I'm married, have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.  I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, creating scrapbooks with my pictures and participating in triathlons.
