For the first 2 months at Zoogdiervereniging I'm doing fieldwork on the Garden Dormouse (Eikelmuis) (Eliomys quercinus) in the Southern part of the Netherlands. The Garden Dormouse is the most threathened mammal in the Netherlands, as only a few small populations remain. There is little knowledge on what this species needs to survive and eventually flourish and therefore it is of high importance to gain more information by monitoring several individuals.

Secretary of Wolves in the Netherlands (Wolven in Nederland, WiN). WiN is a platform of several organizations that strive for a low-conflict coexistence with wolves. By sharing knowledge, WiN wants to gain more understanding about the wolf and their role in ecosystems. Furthermore, knowledge is shared about how we can protect our livestock against the wolf.

To gain more field experience and ecological knowledge, I've been working as a student volunteer at Stichting Bargerveen. My main task is supporting ecological research on the black-tailed godwit (Grutto) by doing field work and collecting soil samples to identify several prey species of this bird. However, besides this project I also assist with collecting data during other research projects throughout the Netherlands. This volunteering work helps me to gain more ecological knowledge of Dutch nature, but also creates a wider view in the working field of nature conservation.

I just started my internship at WWF Netherlands to work at the Freshwater Unit. A part of my activities is doing research on the sustainability of the Dutch water knowledge that is exported abroad, based on the Global Standards of Nature-based Solutions.
