Communications support for specialist research programme investigating healthier urban environments

I'm a communications specialist with a comprehensive background in public sector and charity communications.Working with organisations I help them tell their story to the right audience with the best tools and at the right time.I provide strategic communications planning, media relations, article writing and placement, print and film production, crisis communications, website audits, advertising, case studies, style guides, communication toolkits, award submissions (90% shortlisted) and digital communications support for a variety of clients. Organisations using my services include health authorities, regional and local government, charities, universities, schools, multi-academy trusts, SMEs, an energy start-up, a crisis communications consultant and an education consultant.

Providing specialist media relations and communications support for a generational health study, Children of the 90s. I secured local, national and international media news and feature coverage for the study and it's research findings. The role included supporting social media content (writen and film) and internal communcations.

I provided marketing and communications support for a new local-authority backed energy company. This included editing 90+ customer letters, producing website copy, writing customer guides and commissioning and co-ordinating all photography.

Led media communications and public relations for Children and Adult Services (five years) and Public Health and Transport (two years). Highlights included managing communications around school places shortfall, school standards and the schools capital programme, a BBC documentary on child protection, public health campaigns on skin cancer, ovarian cancer, smoking and obesity and supporting fostering and adoption recruitment. I worked closely with departments and partner organisations to launch initativies such as a cycling strategy, an announcement on the future of the city's care homes and city-wide events. I co-ordinated the sensitive handling around the publication of several serious case reviews for children's social services which involved a large number of partner organisations.During my time at Bristol City Council I led a campaign to support efforts by the children's safeguarding nurse to raise awareness of female genital mutilation. This work was shortlisted for a CIPR regional award.

Led a press desk dealing with surface transport issues - buses, taxis and the river. Led pro-active work on improvements to bus services, a new transport policing unit, a fuel cell bus trial, the introduction of bendy buses and licensing of private hire taxis. Collaborative projects included the introduction of the congestion charge and the Olympic bid.

Proactive and reactive media relations work on a very busy press desk covering the responsibilities of the Home Secretary and Ministers on crime reduction. Policies covered included burglary, car crime, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence and the publication of crime statistics and the British Crime Survey. Co-ordinated visits, launches and interviews and worked with legislative teams.My time here included short secondments with the Metropolitan Police Service and Prison Service.

Managed clients for the South West region including the Highways Agency, Department of Transport and Cabinet Office. Also included co-ordinating regional emergency planning work and work for the Royal Household.

Two month secondment from the COI with the strategic communications unit. Assisted with co-ordination of government announcements, wrote a weekly summary for Cabinet and researched forthcoming potential news stories and events.
