Currently I am an Associate Solicitor in the Employment team at Simons Muirhead Burton LLP based in London. I have over 15 years’ experience working in-house and in private practice. Some of my career highlights can be found below. Simons Muirhead Burton LLP – Solicitor I joined Simons Muirhead Burton LLP (SMB) as a trainee in their head office in London. During my training programme, I was fortunate to gain experience in the following departments: Corporate and Commercial; Death Penalty Programme; Employment and Civil Litigation. Having been client side prior to joining SMB, it was great to be on the other side of the fence. In particular, I enjoy litigation and have been fortunate to be involved in a wide variety of cases.Ernst and Young LLP (EY) – Audit experienceI started my career on a training programme as an auditor for EY. This gave me great exposure to all different types of businesses and an understanding of how they operate. From the start this gave me a risk based approach to my work. Harvey Nichols Ltd – In-house solicitor Having spent three years at EY, I then moved to Harvey Nichols. This was a natural move given my love of fashion and for my desire to work in-house for a company. I had grown up working for my family's retail business, and therefore it was a sector that I was familiar with and wanted to broaden my experience of. I initially started work at Harvey Nichols as their Internal Auditor, which involved evaluating areas of the business and making recommendations accordingly as to how to improve efficiencies and/or compliance, depending on the nature of the project. I was then promoted to Senior Internal Auditor, where I was responsible for delivering compliance programmes, such as the Bribery Act 2010, the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and a review of hospitality tipping arrangements. My remit was then broadened to take on the legal work at Harvey Nichols, in doing so being promoted to Legal and Audit Manager. My experience in this role included:1. Principally responsible for the review of commercial contracts;2. Managed the legal and compliance relationship with Harvey Nichols licensed stores;3. Managed litigation; 4. Responsible for the delivery of the Data Protection Programme in Harvey Nichols; and5. Responsible for the delivery of the crisis management programme. In my spare time, when I'm not running around after my 1-year-old son, I enjoy cooking and running. Running has been a passion since university training and racing a variety of distances. At the moment, when time permits, 10k is my favourite!
