USAID/Colombia’s Environment Program supports the Government of Colombia in the following ways: 1) Strengthening Environmental Governance; 2) Climate Change Adaptation; 3) Climate Change Mitigation; 3) Biodiversity Conservation. • As the mission’s Biodiversity Advisor, I was responsible for the management of biodiversity and climate change portfolio and advising senior USAID officials on biodiversity conservation, climate change & ethnic communities.

• Management of Conservation Mosaics Programme (funded by the World Bank) in National Park Corales del Rosario.

This project evaluated the effectiveness of the Galapagos Marine Reserves participatory management system in transforming environmental conflicts. Research was carried out in Quito and on the Galapagos Islands. The project was sponsored by Futuro Latinoamericano Foundation; Fundar Galápagos; International Crisis Group; and the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University.

This action-research project developed a participative diagnosis of the fishing and conservation activities on the islands. As a result, a joint committee for the development of sustainable fishing was created with the participation of local community and institutional representatives. This committee was recognized as a formal channel for decision-making by the authorities.
