I provide coordination for the Blue Action Fund's wide-ranging grant programme. BAF is a foundation dedicated to supporting marine protected areas and sustainable coastal livelihoods across Africa, Latin America and Asia. Its goal is to reduce the dramatic loss of marine biodiversity and enhance coastal protection while advancing local development by stabilising incomes in coastal communities. It serves as a financial partner for NGOs successfully working in this field, providing individual grants to selected conservation projects.

I managed the EU-financed €10 million POWER KIOSK project, seeking to implement solar-powered kiosks in rural Kenya, Ethiopia and Madagascar to provide renewable energy products and services to off-grid communities. I planned, coordinated and supervised implementation of project activities including procurement, contracting and manufacturing, site selection and field implementation, resource management, environmental and socio-economic impact assessment, partner conferences, partnership development, external communications, budget/administrative compliance and donor reporting.

I provided coordination, research and communication services for environmental projects and initiatives for clients in government, academia and the private sector. Examples include:• Production coordination for the study "Blue Growth in the Baltic Sea Region" commissioned by the EU Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, guiding parallel research, analysis and writing activities of regional country experts, compiling and editing final report, and preparing presentations and progress reports for the Commission.• Communications and outreach for the EU-financed projects CHEMSEA (Chemical munitions search and assessment), Generation BALT (Linking maritime education with the changing job market), SUBMARINER (Sustainable uses of Baltic Sea marine resources), PartiSEApate (Multi-level governance in Maritime Spatial Planning) and PRESOURCE (Promotion of resource efficiency in SMEs in Central Europe), including coordination of a recruitment campaign for an international education program, development of print communication materials, design and production of project websites, and report and publication editing.• Diverse English and Spanish language editorial work

I launched and managed EU-financed sustainable development projects with an average budget of €3 million and 10-20 partner institutions (SUBMARINER - Sustainable Uses of Baltic Sea Marine Resources; BALTADAPT - Baltic Sea Region Climate Adaptation Strategy; and TIDE - Tidal River Development). I assembled and managed international partner networks, developed project frameworks, prepared and submitted grant proposals, coordinated implementation of project activities, timelines, outputs and budgets, organised partner conferences, managed external communications and donor reporting, and prepared project results, policy recommendations and best practice guidelines.

• I coordinated development of program spending plans including proposal solicitation, review and decision-making towards allocation of annual $27 million budget for coral reef conservation and served as liaison between program and funding recipients, overseeing submission of deliverables, ensuring alignment of projects with program directives, and resolving funding issues.• I led first independent external evaluation of the program, overseeing selection of Blue Ribbon expert review panel, preparation of program documentation for analysis, public comment process, and international review conference. • I led subsequent cross-agency effort to devise a strategic roadmap for future program direction, chairing working group tasked with development of new program principles and priorities, managing public review process, coordinating formation of advisory groups for roadmap implementation, and overseeing establishment of a process for assessment of coral reef managers’ most critical needs.• Recipient of a 2008 NOAA Employee of the Year Award

I conducted coral reef ecosystem research and monitoring to help advise the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary management efforts, as well as research on the impact of underwater chemical and radioactive contamination as a result of military activities on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
