Develops and implements policy priorities on behalf of Mayor Jenny Durkan. Current policy issue portfolio includes youth employment, workforce development, arts and culture, Census 2020, public safety, and air quality emergency preparedness.

Managed the City’s relationships and advocates for the city’s interests with regional partners including King County, Sound Transit, the Port of Seattle, and neighboring cities. Responsible for developing and executing the city’s regional engagement strategy. Identified opportunities for the city to partner and lead on regional issues such as homelessness, innovation, climate change, and transportation management.

Served as interim Economic officer for the U.S. Embassy. Responsible for commercial advocacy, outreach to Government of Djibouti on economic initiatives, and commercial issues supporting the 4,500 U.S. military personnel stationed at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Established the first face-to-face communication between La Poste Djibouti and the United States Postal Service, enabling the parties to establish a dispute resolution mechanism to address an outstanding 10-year old postal debt. Lead officer in charge of developing Embassy Djibouti’s Integrated Country Strategy, providing strategic direction for U.S. Mission Djibouti from 2017-2020.

First permanent executive staff team hire supporting Deputy Director for Management Beth Cobert. The Management division is responsible for executing the President’s Management Agenda, focusing on reforms to federal IT, financial management, personnel, and procurement systems. Assisted with preparation of the management chapters for the President’s FY 2015 and FY 2016 budgets. Acted as the Deputy Director’s speechwriter, drafted all public remarks, speeches, and presentations. Oversaw preparation of biweekly management presentations to White House senior staff.

Primary personal staffer to Andrew J. Shapiro, Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs. Planned and executed the Assistant Secretary’s foreign and domestic travel (averaging one 7-10 day multi-country foreign trip per month; 22 individual countries visited). Completed special projects on behalf of the Assistant Secretary including: overseeing preparations for bilateral political-military dialogues with international partners, coordinating review of sensitive Export Control Reform notifications for Congress, and managing the Bureau’s social media presence on Twitter (@StateDeptPM), growing account from zero to 500 followers in six months.

Member of a small negotiating team consisting of three officers, two deputies, one special coordinator, under the leadership of Special Envoy George J. Mitchell. Prepared briefing materials for the Special Envoy and deputy envoys. Served in a liaison capacity between chief of staff and various offices within the Department, White House, NSC, Defense Department, and other U.S. Government offices. Accompanied the Special Envoy on domestic and international travel, assisting with the drafting of papers and reports related to the travel and providing logistical support.
