I oversaw government and community strategy in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico for a Fortune 100 telecommunications and media company. I devised strategies to engage elected officials and advance legislation, policy goals, and regulatory objectives. I led the development, messaging, and tactical execution of billion-dollar corporate investment, innovation, and job announcements.

I sold public-sector solutions to state and local governments to help them gain insight into their data through analytics, data cleansing, governance, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. I led proposal teams and collaborated with government industry experts in the fields of fraud, healthcare, transportation, finance, public safety, and disaster management to translate expertise into solving government challenges and generating sales in areas such as education. SAS recognized my success with the 2020 Vince award.

I served as an advanced, senior level program manager working on special projects including the Governor’s Classroom Connectivity initiative to expand high-speed broadband to all Texas public schools. This project started in 2015. It required me to work with telecommunications providers and school districts to ensure support. It also required securing a state appropriation in 2017 and matching federal funds. Districts were also guided through a federal application process.

I served as a member of the Governor’s senior staff, advising on policy development and implementation, appointments, budget and education policy. During that time, I was the primary liaison with the Texas Education Agency, directing resource allocation, budgeting, and initiatives that impact 5.5 million students. I lobbied the Legislature to pass the Governor’s education priorities (including pre-K grants and reading and math academies) and provided guidance to the Texas Education Agency on implementation. I collaborated with the Texas Education Agency, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and Texas Workforce Commission on the development of the Governor’s Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative. This required identifying funding, and developing innovative high school to career programs based on employer needs. I also directed personnel by planning, scheduling, delegating, and overseeing employee work assignments.

I represented 1,029 school boards in front of the Governor of Texas, Texas Legislature, Texas Education Agency, State Board of Education, and stakeholder groups on issues impacting school districts. During that time, I led the development of and messaging of association policies and positions presented to the Texas Legislature on issues involving students, college-career readiness, assessment, and accountability. I drafted and passed legislation, delivered executive-level presentations, built coalitions and grassroots advocacy campaigns, served as an association spokesperson, and published articles and issue briefs.

I served as an anchor and reporter for nightly newscasts in a stressful, fast-paced environment, covering high profile stories. I managed the personnel and resources necessary for newscasts; issued newsroom assignments to reporters and photographers; and founded and managed a news bureau.

I served as the morning anchor and executive producer of NewsWest 9 Sunrise, the top rated morning newscast in Midland/Odessa. I also reported on crime, education, and West Texas weather.
