As Vice President of Audit and Accounting for First Community Bank, I’m responsible for a variety of compliance and control functions, including audits and exams, as well as oversight of all outsourced services provided to FCB. My first job in banking was that of a customer service and new accounts rep and I helped introduce the world to the first ATMs.WHAT I DOMy responsibilities pertain to management and oversight of a variety Bank operations including: • Accounting and operations compliance to internal controls • All external audits and State and Federal examinations• Internal controls and cash audits • Accounts payable department• Sales & Use Tax laws and monthly Use Tax returns• Internal financial statements for the Bank Holding Co.• Bank Holding Company’s semi-annual Y9 Report to the Federal Reserve Bank• Due diligence and information pertaining to outsourced services provided to all FCB locations • Contracts for fair representation of the bank’s interests• Leases, with FCB as both Lessee and Lessor• Render taxes (ad valorem tax, FCB property taxes, etc.) …FOR CUSTOMERSAlthough my position is technically behind the scenes, in my oversight of outsourced services, I do work with many people in the Coastal Bend, including customers. I’m also involved with the community through interaction with business development groups and the local CPA Society, and through volunteer work. … FOR EMPLOYEESI support FCB operations and assist in controlling operating expenses by managing accounts payable and by facilitating and overseeing all audits and exams. With more than 1,000 vendors providing services for FCB locations—including IT software and maintenance, attorneys, loan processors, appraisers, correspondent banks, inspectors, auditors, janitorial, security systems, copiers, beverage services and more—it’s imperative to protect the reputation and assets of the Bank by vetting providers to ensure their reliability and trustworthiness.
