Worked with the Life Sciences Business Lead to agree annual operating business plan and ensure we achieved our goals within it.Responsible for having the systems in place to adhere to Philips regulatory controls whilst providing an environment for the research and development teams to achieve our road map goals.Project managed a £20m government project through Innovate UK. This involved working with 6 academic and NHS partners throughout the UK aimed at revolutionising the speed, accuracy and consistency of cancer diagnosis by introducing artificial intelligence into digital pathology.

Helped lead the successful “exit” of PathXL into Philips.PathXL was a global pioneer in the use of web-based solutions for digital and computational pathology, providing innovative software for use in drug discovery research, clinical sectors, bio-marker analysis and education.Member of Board of Directors and reporting to CEO. Along with the CEO was the only other full-time executive director in PathXL. As a result had a wider commercial role being involved in sales planning and contract negotiations together with product development.Raised over £3m in venture capital funding.Responsible for all financial affairs of the business including setting 3 year business plan, cash flow planning, liaising with V.C. information needs, fund raising, grant submissions and claims, etc. In the final year had been successful in claiming over £800k in various forms of grant aid.

Founded Online Finance Dept, a financial and performance management company aimed at improving business performance and sustained profitability. Online Finance Dept provided part-time Finance Director and financial management services to growing businesses that required financial direction, but did not need or could not afford to employ a full-time Finance Director. Other services included monthly accounts, payroll, book-keeping, invoicing and credit control.One of four business partners in the UK and Ireland for Adaptive Planning who provided innovative software-as-a-service business planning and reporting software. (Adaptive Planning complete in the market place with Hyperion, Cognos and SAP). Representative in Ireland for Reality Finance the fifth largest provider of asset finance solutions in the UK.

Member of the Board of Directors.Responsible for the funding, planning and financial strategy of the Grafton Group. This included business planning, treasury, working capital management, statutory reporting and company secretarial functions.Delivered the acquisition, due diligence and integration of 2 companies into the Grafton Group. One was an executive search and selection company in Dubai. The other was a recruitment agency in Dublin. Was also involved in the negotiations and due diligence on separate occasions with two global recruitment companies interested in acquiring Grafton Recruitment – neither of which completed.“Since Junior joined Grafton 11 years ago, the business has expanded from four branches to seventy-two branches in nineteen countries. This has seen sales grow from £4.8m to £130m in 2006. Our growth has often been “bumpy” and Junior inherited many a financial challenge along the way. Managed 39 personnel. This included establishing a formal Service Level Agreement and Credit Policy to determine delivery levels between the FSSC, the group network and external clients. Turned the back office service centre into a revenue generating profit centre by setting up an outsourced payroll company to service external clients. The company had achieved turnover of £4m within 2 years.
