After the leave of the previous project leader of the Remote Backup Service at SARA I took on his position. In the same year we did a major improvement of the complete system. One of my new tasks was SAN administration.My focus on the GRID storage was shifted towards the network side, being the liaison between the Computing department and the Networking department. This improved the communication and the workflow between the two departments.Since the beginning of 2010, I moved from the Remote Backup Service to the Mass Storage services at SARA. These services are currently based on SGI's Disk Migration Facility.

I started as a TSM administrator for the Remote Backup Service at SARA. I created a task scheduler for TSM to manage the backup, migration and reclamation processes amongst the creation of various scripts to enhance the service. After a year I started to work with the GRID front-end storage besides the backup environment. This GRID storage environment is designed to store a part of the data which is generated by the LHC ar CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.

As the sole sytem administrator in the early days I was responsible of all computers and servers in the company. I introduced and administered several servers including mail, proxy, file (all based on linux) and exsisting database servers. Through the years the hardware and software was upgraded. I set up network connections to the branch offices which I later replaced by VPN connections over the internet. A GPRS connection for around 40 workers (with an extra 40 laptops) in the field was also one of the major projects I can claim credit for.I also helped implementing a new PBX creating a complete nummering scheme for the main office. This PBX system was later expanded with a VOIP connection to one of the branch offices. This connection was made through the VPN.As one of the last projects I worked on with my fellow administrator was a centralized install server based on Norton Ghost and upgrading all workstations from Windows 98 to Windows XP.
