Senior Scientist & Group Leader -Alzheimer’s disease (2000 - 2002)• Member of drug discovery steering committee within a corporate collaboration with Eli Lilly & Co. involved the in vitro and in vivo characterisation of small molecule inhibitors of Alzheimer’s disease. One of these compounds progressed to Phase III clinical trials in treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.• Led cross-functional New Target Team to prioritize new proposals resulting in the initiation of pilot screening efforts on 3 new projects.• As Biology Team Lead designed and managed the implementation of primary, secondary and tertiary cell-based assays to support a proprietary small molecule drug screen for inhibitors of serine/threonine kinases involved in neurodegeneration. • Directed team of two scientists in inter-company γ-secretase protease inhibitor programme that resulted in a US. Patent and contributed to additional U.S. patents.• Contributed hands-on and intellectually to the development and optimization of mammalian cell-based assay for the characterisation of pre-clinical candidate protease inhibitors.Scientist -Alzheimer’s disease (1998 - 2000)• Assumed project leadership role in inter-company Alzheimer’s disease collaboration.• Provided knowledge and experience in the area of apoptosis previously absent in the company research department, including access to a network of established scientists and research reagents.• Introduced novel technology to the research department critical for the high-throughput screening and analysis of cell and tissue culture samples.• Contributed to the development and validation of an in vitro tissue culture system used in the study of Alzheimer’s disease drug targets.
