I'm currently finishing up my 20 year career in the US Air Force. As I transition back to the civilian world, I will be shifting directions into software development.My software development journey began about 8 years ago. I was curious how video games were made so I began learning about game engines, programming, animation, and modeling. After several months of learning on my own, I started building my very first game with Unity where I learned C#. I completed all of the programming, built all of the models with Blender, and animated all the models. It was a HUGE learning experience.After I completed my first game, I quickly learned that I enjoyed the software development side a lot. I enjoyed the problem solving aspect of it the most. Also, watching your creations come to life was such a rewarding experience.I continued learning C# but also started to expand my experience into other languages where I learned about C++ and Kotlin. I even began creating apps for personal use to assist with daily life. For example, when my daughter started learning to drive and she needed to track her driving time, I created an app that she could use to track every single drive she accomplished.I also became involved with a gaming community where I was able to use my skills to write many scripts in Lua. This was also a great opportunity to bring ideas that people had into a gaming environment along with learning how to tackle problems these ideas presented.Now that I'm at the end of my military career, I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the Skillbridge program the military offers where I have started attending a bootcamp learning about JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. It has been a great experience to learn other languages I have not worked with yet and to continue broadening my programming experience.
