As the Coordinator for the Student Veteran Resource Center I serve as the managing director for center supervising six employees including two graduate assistants, three academic tutors, and one federal work-study. The center provides several programs that combine both academic and social support to improve the retention and recruitment of student veterans. I am responsible for the strategic direction as well as the day-to-day operations of the center. I serve as the chair for a university wide steering committee for student veteran success that includes senior leaders, faculty, staff, and students. I report to the Vice President of Student Services and serve as senior staff member within Student Services.

Developed and directed a $500,000 Department of Education grant that identified and addressed the social and academic needs of student veterans with disabilities through evidence based professional development workshops. I was responsible for: managing the budget, negotiating contracts, hiring and supervising grant employees, data collection and analysis, curriculum design, event planning, marketing, and program evaluation. Some of the most successful outcomes include dynamic partnerships with national organizations, a state-wide workshop that included six universities and two university centers, and a book that expanded on the grant materials titled: Preparing your Campus for Veteran Success. Resources developed out of this grant have been used by the University of Alaska Anchorage, Central Michigan University, East Tennessee State University, The Ohio State University, Penn State University, Liberty University and the University of Wyoming. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, who represents 35 colleges and universities and over 311,000 students and 41,680 faculty and staff, are using resources developed out of this grant. Finally, Fides materials are prominently featured on the American Council on Education’s (ACE) “Toolkit for Veteran Friendly Institutions.” The ACE member institutions serve 80% of the current U.S. college student population.

The USSTRATCOM J9 Internship is a semester long program that allows college and graduate students to research and provide their recommendations for U.S. Department of Defense problem sets. Interns work in multidisciplinary groups to research problems through various channels (internet, conferences, industry specialists, etc.) to form relevant recommendations which are presented to the USSTRATCOM Commander.
