Disability Support WorkerChess Connect Feb 2020 - Nov 2021Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, AustraliaThrough this part-time role, I very much enjoyed my involvement as a Disability Support Worker, helping improve my clients' independence and quality of life. During my time in this role, I worked with people experiencing a wide range of physical / mental disabilities as well as First Nations' and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. It was a job I found incredibly rewarding and received wonderfully positive feedback from my clients. I worked in clients’ homes and provided physical assistance, emotional support and friendship. I assisted people to perform important daily activities including personal hygiene and dressing tasks, performing home based tasks such as food preparation and housework. I would take my clients' out and about to undertake tasks outside the home such as shopping, experiencing cultural events and generally just engaging with the broader community through a varied program of social activities. It helped me see the world a bit differently and I am still in contact with a number of my clients.
