About Justin Koscak, P.Eng
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with learning how things work. I remember growing up watching “Mighty Machines” for hours on end and begging my mom to take me to construction sites so I could watch the action from my car seat. Naturally, this thirst for learning how and why transitioned into an interest in Mathematics and Science, leading me to the field of Engineering. Through my Undergraduate Studies at McMaster University, I solidified my passion for learning and realized a passion for sharing knowledge with others. As my parents can attest to, I learned to talk before I could walk, and I haven’t stopped talking since that day. I love talking with others, whether it is one-on-one, in small groups, or even with large audiences. I consider myself a ‘people person’ in every sense of the definition and enjoy my work the most when it is with others. Not surprisingly, I have found myself at Lakeside Process Controls enjoying a career in Industrial Automation. So far in my career, I have worked my way through both the Application Engineering and Technical Sales Specialist roles, gaining valuable knowledge of our Measurement Solutions portfolio. Through these roles, I have had the opportunity to work with many customers across Ontario and Manitoba, gaining exposure to a variety of industries, and helping each solve their Measurement challenges. In both roles, my passion for sharing knowledge and my desire to work with others paired well, resulting in my success. In my current role as Business Unit Lead for Measurement Solutions, I oversee Lakeside's Instrumentation business, encompassing renowned brands such as Rosemount, Micro Motion, and FLEXIM. I'm dedicated to providing unparalleled support to our customers. Whether you have questions or require assistance with your instrumentation needs, I'm here to ensure your requirements are met with precision and expertise. My efforts resulted in tripling the project’s initial scope and Lakeside becoming the customer’s sole-source supplier for the project’s instrumentation.Proposed and implemented an Inventory Program for a product with historically low volume and margin, and poor win rates. By purchasing bulk quantities and storing locally, we have been able to win more orders over our competition at significantly higher margins. The success of my Inventory Program was recognized by Emerson, the product’s manufacturer, and a similar program is being implemented across North America. Developed Education and Training Programs for new and non-technical employees that provides an overview of the Process Controls Industry and the importance of each role within the organization. The overwhelmingly positive feedback resulted in Management adding the Program to the Onboarding Training for all new employees. I host this training bi-annually and have since presented it to over 120+ employees. Created a series of reports in our Enterprise Resource Planning (“ERP”) software which improves the visibility of pertinent data for Application Engineers. These metrics include average purchasing price, average selling price, win rates, and product commonalities between customers.
