• Personal safety, contributing to the safety of co-workers and management of all work- An active participant in the on-site safety system, including regular formalised inspection of work areas, conducting work observations, risk assessments, job safety analysis, hazard identification & incident analysis.• The provision of geological services to the mining operation• Development of geological models- using “Datamine” software• Maintain and manage the geological databases- Over 40 years of drilling results in an Oracle database using an acQuire software interface, covering various deposits, each with several different vintages of drilling, sampling and analysis techniques • Planning and overseeing yearly resource development drilling, sampling & analysis programs- Annual drilling programs of approx. 6,000 shallow aircore holes (<10m depth) producing approx. 60,000 samples pa. for analysis. Drilling is restricted to the dry season and a fairly rigid schedule must be maintained to complete each program before the onset of the wet season.• Managing all contractors associated with the drilling programs- All drill line dozing, surveying and drilling is contracted out• Provide leadership/support to members of the geological team - Comprehensive people systems including role descriptions, regular work place conversations, yearly work performance assessments and personal development plans. Teamwork developed through working together courses and understanding the team leadership/team membership model. • Provide technical support to the Mine Planning team members & mine production personnel, including investigation of mine problems • Improve & refine the geological modelling system• Budget preparation & management for the geology section• Planning & running remote exploration programs• Competent Person for Comalco’s Resources and senior CP for resource & reserves reporting to Rio Tinto
