After the shutdown of Cruise services in San Francisco in October 2023, AJ and I worked together to re-charter the team and focus our efforts on building the next platform for supply/demand optimization of the marketplace, and AJ managed a new "Marketplace Foundations" team, building the foundational services that deliver strong consistency and high availability for running optimization engines, storing state machines, as well as a flexible geo-indexed querying service to enable horizontal scalability of our optimization engines. His team was able to deliver their H1 milestones on time and with no issues. Unfortunately, in June 2024, we had to downsize the group due to budget constraints, and AJ's role was impacted. However, I would hire him again immediately if we open up new EM roles.
