I started my professional career in 95 as a programmer for a software games company. During this period I also studied artificial intelligence at the University of Amsterdam.In 1999 I was one of 6 founders of SmartHaven, a company specializing in user profiling and community building through smart (A.I.) technology. The company had multi-million euro funding. I acted both as CTO and Architect within the company.In may 2002 SmartHaven was sold. I left and started JTeam together with Alef Arendsen. Our goal was to build a company around Enterprise Open Source Software (EOSS) that would do in-house projects based on an agile methodology, consult other companies on how to apply EOSS and provide support on EOSS.In 2004 we founded the JTeam Group that participated in JTeam and in SpringSource.JTeam designed and implemented business critical systems for medium-size businesses (50-500 employees) using Open Source Enterprise Java. JTeam (renamed to Orange11) was acquired by Trifork A/S (TRIFOR:DC) in 2012.SpringSource (formerly known as Interface21), the commercial company behind the very popular Spring framework, an open source, Java application development framework. SpringSource was acquired by VMWare (NYSE:VMW) in September 2009.In April 2006 I left JTeam Group and have taken a well deserved sabbatical. From 2009 till 2013 I was responsible for the Architecture and Operations at eBuddy, a pioneer on the Instant Messaging market and at a later stage the Mobile Messaging market. At it's heyday eBuddy had 35 Million monthly unique users and 9 Million daily uniques.In 2014 I joined BUX (http://getbux.com) as CTO. BUX is a startup that empowers everybody to start trading stocks, regardless of financial means or previous experience.Having done scattered Angel investing in the past I decided it was time for a more focussed approach and I therefore joined forces with Shamrock Ventures as one of the Founding Partners in March 2022. Shamrock Ventures is a EUR 10 million pre-seed and early-seed impact fund that focuses on tech startups that disrupt large markets and create social and environmental impact with their mission. Areas of focus include circular economy, cleantech, sustainable mobility and food & agritech. With its fund, Shamrock Ventures provides ambitious founders with their first professional capital combined with operational and technical expertise. Initial ticket size ranges between EUR 100,000 and 250,000 per investment.
