- Completed my bachelor’s thesis working on phase one of a project to design and prototype a submersible button to enable the dolphins to interact with guests and enrichment activities.- Reviewed literature on dolphins’ biomechanics, vision capabilities, sense of touch and weathering of 3D printed plastic to guide the dimensions, force specifications and materials used in the design.- Undertook force testing on interface prototypes to gather and review data using scatter plots in Microsoft Excel to identify required operating force.- Manufactured and assembled the button’s components using 3D printers and tools.- Simulated finite element analysis on the components of the button to establish safe operating parameters guided by reviewed literature.- Tested the button under the supervision of SeaWorld dolphin trainers, following verification criteria adapted from reviewed literature to inform future designs.
