I joined the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) as a Referral Reading Officer in September 2021. I act as a gatekeeper of all referrals for psychological assessments and placements through the reading of psychological reports and concerns of parents on application forms. Furthermore, I assist in screenings to assess the risk level of dyslexia and CBA profilings for placements. Queries through phone, email, and walk-in queries on admission and psychological assessments will be answered by me.

I was a Teacher Aide supporting 2 classes a day. I taught a class of eight 11 year old children and six 14 year old teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I was given the opportunity to execute Discrete Trial Training (DTT) method in teaching the students. I supported students in Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Education (PE), Music, Art, Daily Living Skills (DLS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). As an intern at SAAS, I was able to express my creativity through the implementation of activities. In line with my FYP, I created an interactive educational book titled as iRegulate for 3 classes consisting of 13 to 14 year old teenagers. iRegulate was a book on identifying emotions and self-regulating independently. Moreover, with my fixed class, I created a lesson combining Art and SEL by getting the students to create a twister board from scratch. Job Scope: - Marking and packing of worksheets - Guide students in reading I marked the worksheets of students of various age groups. In this short period of time, I understood that being focus in your work is essential. I gained responsibility and took pride in ensuring I marked the worksheets correctly for the students. I taught students from the younger age group to read and guided them when they read short passages. I applied verbal reinforcements such as saying, "good job" or "its okay, try again. You can do it!" I learnt that by saying such reinforcement, it further encourages students.

Job Scope: - Assist class teachers in preparation and execution of lessons I was a class support at Chiltern House Preschool, Forum Branch. I assisted class teachers & supported the children during lessons. There were senior teachers whom taught me valuable teaching techniques and the planning of lessons. I was able to join in the preparation for holiday activities where I learnt the importance of carrying out lessons creatively. I was given the opportunity to do story-telling and plan creative lessons that would interest students. I gained invaluable working experience from interacting with teachers, parents and children.I developed teamwork and creativity during this experience.
