Having joined DAS at the end of 2001 and assuming the post of CEO in 2014, I have been honored to work with a wonderfully supportive Board and an incredibly committed team of colleagues ! I have stayed for over 20 years because DAS has grown and evolved and I have been fortunate to have grown and evolved as well ! From a small charity delivering just one program for children with dyslexia, DAS now delivers a wide range of programs and services for people who learn differently ! We also initiated two subsidiaries namely DAS Academy which provides professional development for educators and caregivers and DAS International which responds to the international community in Singapore and the region.I believe DAS has grown because we adopted a social enterprise approach and run the organization with the energy and entrepreneurial spirit of private enterprise yet always maintaining our social objectives. Our emphasis on staff professional development and helping to build a pool of expertise in Singapore has also been a factor. I am glad that investing time in program evaluation and publishing the progress of our students has prompted transparency, improvement and confidence for our programs ! In recent years, I have been most concerned by the significant impact family circumstance has on the academic and life achievements of children ! Over 50% of children enrolled in DAS program are from lower income families who qualify for additional financial assistance. This is a group I will continued to focus great attention on going forward. I was honored to have been on the Board of the US-based International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and Chair of their Global Partners Committee from 2016 to 2018. I am delighted to remain a member of IDA's Global Network Committee representing Singapore and receive International Dyslexia Association’s Excellence in Leadership Award 2020. The global dyslexia community is growing and the “International Book of Dyslexia In Education” published by Routledge (2022) which I co-edited will hopefully contribute to this community. In 2023, I was delighted to accept the invitation to join the Board of the African Dyslexia Organization.Reflecting the significant overlap between dyslexia and other specific learning differences, I was pleased to have been on the SPARK (Society for the Promotion of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Research & Knowledge) 2.0 Steering Committee.DAS can help many more children and my next step is to help the team "Go Beyond Dyslexia" !
