Nationalities include Burundians, Sudanese, Somalis and Bhutanese.• Created a joint tutoring partnership with the Refugee Empowerment program, which increased student access to academic help while in my classroom with Memphis City Schools;• Collaborate with REP on the development of community surveys and student advocacy;• Research and develop new models for academic support and content delivery for language acquisition and newcomer acculturation.

In the beginning levels, students are greatly assisted in other core classes; TN does not have a model that includes sheltered core content.• Selected by District Administration to pilot a Newcomer Immersion Program for refugees; first program of its kind in the district for a high school.• Improved communication and collaboration with all educational and community stakeholders through partnership with the Refugee Empowerment Center. The community facility allows gathering of students, parents, teachers, administrators and bilingual mentors to discuss the specific needs of this community.• Created a joint tutoring partnership with the Refugee Empowerment program, which increased student access to academic help.

Completed M.Ed in Secondary Education, which included a capstone project that compared the differences in student and teacher perceptions of effective teaching strategies.
