Working remotely, I participate in all aspects of the Book Design/Pre-Publishing process. I primarily use Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop to apply designs (typography, composition, image placement, folios, etc.) to manuscripts and prepare them for print.

I was brought on to design and build their website: theuscs.comBecause we were pushed for time, I was unable to produce mockups in advance, and went straight to work implementing the parallax pages I envisioned, adjusting for contrast and brightnessas I went. It was difficult to find a balance to keep the text visible while also keeping images and textures alive.

My work mostly involved the quality-control and conversion of manga from print-based assets so that the comics could be viewed on mobile devices.

I participated in various aspects of the graphic design and print production processes, including illustration, book layout, and pre-press.

I performed quality-control and optimized methods to quickly convert large quantities of print-based manga (graphic novel) assets into many digital formats and resolutions to make them viewable on the diverse display sizes of mobile devices. I also assisted with asset management, the retrieval of digital assets from printers, the enforcement of naming conventions, and the publishing of new titles.The company environment was amazing—an experience I’ll never forget. Everyone was very collaborative and friendly, and the place had a peculiar culture that was all its own. I looked forward to going to work every day and contributing to VIZ’s success.
