• Service position that works alongside the National Park Service, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and other leading agencies. Assigned to backcountry hitches and special projects as follows: • Habitat Restoration: Duties include, but are not limited to; Planting, naturalizing social trails, selectively spraying herbicide, plant identification of local species, etc. • Invasive Species Removal: Duties include, but are not limited to; Invasive removal efforts (via hand tools, chainsaw, hand pulling, etc. to mitigate species spread), identification of invasive species per local region, removal of seed heads, surface treatment, uprooting the whole stem, etc. • Wildlife Surveying & Monitoring: Duties include, but are not limited to; Collecting data and observing local species, habitat restoration, identification and education opportunities of local flora and fauna, etc.

I am first mate on the Nags Head Dolphin watch vessels, while simultaneously conducting field studies for the Outer Banks Center for Dolphins Research by collecting opportunistic photo-identification data as well as lab work with MS Access database and FinBase, to build the OBXCDR photo-id catalogs.

•Assisted with boats to dock, whether it be for the fuel dock, restaurant, personal slip, or work racks. •Safely dock expensive yachts without damaging the boats, the docks, or injuring other teammates. •Routinely used power tools (such as grinder and power washer) on unstable platforms, docks, in the heat, and boats. •Retained a high level of general knowledge of boats, boat mechanics, boat parts, and maintenance of boats. •Duties included loading and unloading of trailers. •Welcomed new customers in a manner that expressed a kind, courteous, and professional character. •Maintained and cleaned restrooms, docks, walkways, ground, equipment, and other designated areas. Performed daily trash removal (morning, evening, and afternoon) as needed. •Inspected decks, docked vessels, and new move-in boats.

Conducted field research on elasmobranchs native to the Gulf of Mexico. The research included all aspects of research, including but not limited to tagging (satellite and acoustic), data collection (genetic material, sexed, measured), setting and retrieving gear (long-line, rod and reel, and tangle nets). Worked on a fast-paced and high stress boat with multiple marine biologists and research captains while processing animals as quickly as possible. Handled and processed an array of species, including but not limited to tiger sharks, bull sharks, great hammerheads, bonnethead hammerheads, Atlantic sharp noses, nurse sharks, black tip reef sharks, black nose sharks, Atlantic southern stingrays, cownose rays, smooth butterfly rays, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles (green sea, loggerhead, Kemp’s ridley), goliath groupers, dolphins, manatees, etc.
