My name is Kaitlyn Wheaton, but many people call me Smiley. I am a Nursing student at Azusa Pacific University working as a respite caregiver to pursue my dream of becoming an ER nurse. I have been a respite caregiver for over two years through AccentCare where I have acquired many technical skills that I can transfer over to the field of nursing. I am passionate about caring for people, which makes me an excellent respite caregiver and future nurse. When clients see me walk through their door, they know that they are in good hands. I care for not only their physical self, but also their mental and emotional self as well. I make sure that the clients have an enjoyable time with me by going above and beyond my job description. I care for a couple clients and instead of just making sure they are okay physically, I bake, paint, and talk with them, as well as make sure they are moving throughout the day. ​Making a positive impact on someone else's day is my favorite thing to do. I have been volunteering with a non-profit organization called The Alliance of Therapy Dogs for almost two years now, which aims to provide hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, and schools with the best therapy dogs. I have two registered therapy dogs who enjoy spending time in nursing homes because everyone wants to pet them. While visiting, we make sure to stop by every room and talk with the person in it. We could honestly spend all day there if I do not keep track of the time. I have also been volunteering in High Desert Church's preschool.
