Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch (ORPB) -Coordinated over 40 multistate foodborne and zoonotic outbreak investigations for E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria, alongside CDC, local and state partners, FDA, and USDA colleagues. Notable outbreaks include 2020 S. Newport outbreak linked on onions, 2021 E. coli O157 outbreak linked to lettuce, and 2021 S. Typhimurium outbreak linked to pine siskins.-Evaluated epidemiological studies using statistical techniques (both univariate and multivariate analyses) for outbreak response investigations to shape guidance for the public on disease prevention by routinely using analytic software packages such as SAS, R, Python, and SEDRIC.-Communicated findings of surveillance and outbreaks to state and federal partners and the public through peer-reviewed publications, national and international conference presentations, and web posts. -Developed high-quality questionnaires, and assessed epidemiologic data through complex statistical methods (ex. case-case and binomials using SAS and Python). -Laid the foundation for the response of Reoccurring, Emerging, and Persisting (REP) strains, a new public health threat. Created committee to investigate and respond to growing concerns.-Integrated experience with EDLB to incorporate laboratory data to ensure better epidemiologic investigation and emergency response.-Maintained the newly upgraded SEDRIC platform (data sharing and analysis platform used across multiple levels to collect, store, and visualize public health data) alongside specialized team and trained new users. -Upheld strong research ethics and integrity during investigations and the creation of scientific reports (application of IRB and HIPAA processes, protection of PII and CII information, etc.)-Volunteer Deployment to COVID-19 Case Surveillance Task Force between May and June 2020: Validated aggregated case and death counts from states, analyzed data, and reported trends to leadership and White House.

Enteric Diseases Laboratory Branch (EDLB)-Performed real-time national surveillance of Listeria, E. coli, Shigella, Salmonella, Vibrio, and Yersinia. -Managed national big-data databases containing complex sequencing data and clinical metadata.-Detected clusters and outbreaks through whole genome sequencing (WGS). -Interpreted WGS results and constantly-changing trend data of pathogenic strains of bacteria over time.-Developed a model that was able to predict how quickly a strain of E. coli was evolving over time based on WGS results and outbreak data.-Significantly involved in transition from PFGE to WGS for surveillance of national foodborne outbreaks. -Trained local and state partners in using BioNumerics platform to successfully manage pathogen surveillance over time and share data with CDC.
