I started my working career in the Royal Navy as an Electronic Engineer (6 years), gaining a foundation degree in Electronics with Portsmouth University.Moved to shift work as an Electrician for Guardian Industries a float glass line running 24/7/365. This is where I gained my industrial electrics and basic PLC knowledge (3 years).Changed to a multi skilled technician at Napier Brown (1 year), where I continued to gain knowledge in mechanical and PLC work.Currently I am at British Gypsum (12 years) where I have bettered myself several times. Starting out as a Control & instrument technician learning to program and install/ maintain automation equipment (Rockwell). This lead to me passing an Electrical & Electronic Degree and becoming a Control engineer for one of the lines. After taking on the main production line after 6 months of qualifying I carried out the improvement/ maintenance and project work increasing the reliability and visibility of the line. WinCC SCADA. The Electrical Engineer retired and I changed roles to Electrical Engineering taking on 9 reportees and the Duty holder / compliance responsibilities. My role includes the following:- ATEX/DSEAR (COMPEX 14) VSD and Servo tuning & line support, Electrical spare parts, Rockwell support contract, Electrical and site maintenance strategy, Site Projects e.g. HV switch gear replacement, EV charging, site WiFi, LED lights (saving 143k annual). Appraisals and individual development, root cause analysis and World Class Manufacturing techniques, management and vetting of Contractors, creation of Standard Maintenance Procedures, Risk assessments, Method statements and Isolation procedures, Compliance standards- PAT, fixed installation inspection, emergency lighting, installation certification, safety levels and design (TUV), maintaining Electrical drawings, creating electrical drawings for new installations and supporting the lines with breakdown investigation.
