About Karla Gustafson

Karla was the prior Department Chair of the Gerontology. Under her leadership, the department received national accreditation from the Association for Gerontology Education Council (AGEC). The first of two educational institutions in the United States to meet the high standards required to receive an accredited designation. The Gerontology department received the prestigious distinction of being the only community college in the United States to be awarded "Program of Merit" standing by the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE). As mankind faces the global phenomenon of living longer than ever before in the history of the world, Karla looks at aging as the New Frontier. The demographic shift to an aging population creates exciting opportunities and issues that have never been witnessed before.She served the State Agency on Aging Area Four on the Governing Board in an executive positions until her recent move to New Mexico in September of 2020.
