Principal Radar Systems Engineer
In this role I directed a multi-cultural engineering team in development and verification of improved features for commercial and military airborne navigation and radar systems, including terrain mapping and automated detection of hazards such as lightning, turbulence, and wind shear. ► I served as face-of-the-company with client engineering staffs in defining systems requirements, along with hands-on technical support at client facilities during integration and testing. ► Streamlined the review process timeline by 20% with elimination of redundancies.► Averted a potential nine-month schedule delay, by development of a trajectory planning algorithm, for which I was named co-inventor on the subsequent patent. ► Introduced new database process with automated collection of performance metrics that paved the path for CMMI level 5 certification
Principal Systems Engineer
I was selected and promoted to lead a ~$10M, multi-disciplinary R&D team effort, to upgrade an airborne imaging radar processor. Developed deployed an integrated a radar imaging system that included a millimeter-wave radar, a calibrated head-up display and high-speed data acquisition. ► Taking a calculated risk, I implementation of an Agile-like methodology, in an organization still using Waterfall methods. This change allowed the team to react quickly to client request and project changes. ► Expanded system’s capabilities with an automated runway detection feature – a new functionality indigenous only to this development. ► Achieved a 2X display frame rate and reduced image latency with use of OpenGL and hardware graphics acceleration. ► The team completed the project meeting and exceeding technical objectives and was recognized with the Bill Lear Award for engineering excellence, one of the handful of teams within the corporate aerospace division to do so. Software Engineer► In this earlier position I developed software in ANSI C for multi-processor, triplex-redundant flight control computer including real-time process scheduler, interrupt manager and hardware abstraction layer. ► I conducted a final code review for a complex, safety-critical test software involving hundreds of requirements and dozens of code files from several authors. During customer testing there were zero findings of any deficiencies. ► Due to an unexpected departure of the key programmer, I stepped in to complete the porting of a real-time OS to a new embedded processor card. My efforts enabled the company to meet a critical milestone and achieve a significant payment incentive.
Senior Systems Engineer
For this starting position, I managed a wide scope of technical support and documentation across multiple systems including specifications requirements, compliance reviews and testing coordination, which included: ► Examination of vendors qualification test procedures and compliance to specifications► Conducting system trade studies and design reviews and specifying electrical and environmental requirements for new and modified equipment. ► Testing a new controller during development and initial flight tests.
