Iowa Sister States (ISS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to manage Iowa’s official relationship with foreign states, as established by the Governor of Iowa. There are 9 of these, including: Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan; Yucatan, Mexico; Hebei Province, China; Terengganu, Malaysia; Stavropol Krai, Russia; Taiwan; Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine; Veneto Region, Italy; and Kosovo. As the International Program Manager I help to strengthen our relationships with Iowa's sister states through a variety of programs including: youth exchanges, sports diplomacy, and hosting delegations based on different themes throughout the year.

At the Iowa DNR I was the site supervisor for a team of 6 AmeriCorps members that will serve as the Disaster Response Team. I helped train and organize the team to be able to respond to disasters.This team will be able to deploy on a national level for disaster response and can be utilized for a variety of response related activities. These include: gutting a house, running a Volunteer Reception Center, replacing drywall, donations management, etc. While not on a mission assignment I coordinate the team and assign them to priority projects all over the state of Iowa.

At GDM Habitat I spearheaded the evaluation plan for GDM Habitat in the MLK Jr. Park neighborhood. I worked alongside many key stakeholders and community partners to work towards the Neighborhood Revitalization Plan. Within the Rock the Block® department I made key relationships with residents and partner families, while qualifying families for the Rock the Block® program.

As the Service and Justice Peer Minister I led the service and justice team. This consisted of a group of students that coordinated service and awareness events for both students and the parish. As the Peer Minister I planned our meetings and our team retreats. Our team coordinated reoccurring weekly events along with larger service projects, including a Sock-Hop that raised socks to give to the local homeless shelters. Our goal as a team was to encourage other students and parishioners to volunteer their time to make a difference in our local community. We also encouraged awareness of many issues that happen both locally and globally. In general as a Peer Minister I represented the church as someone that a student could feel comfortable using as a resource within the church. I encouraged students to participate in all activities and was available if they needed to talk.
