Currently serving as the director of instructional technology since December of 2013. Key areas of focus include the redesign of the RTI reading instructional program including adopting Wilson Fundations K-6 for Tier 2 and 3 intervention, Scholastic Read 180 and System 44 for grades 7-12 tiers 2 and 3, and adoption of F & P Phonics as a Tier 1 core instruction supplement grades K-2. Working with the District literacy committee, we have moved to a research based system of benchmarking and early identification of reading and math needs, using AIMSWEB 2.0 and common CCLS aligned interim assessments in ELA and math. Professional Development has focused on making the instructional shifts required by the CCLS, partnering with the Institute for Learning to adopt 12 rigorous units of study, and supporting teachers with ongoing PD in Accountable Talk and Principals with strategies to lead CCLS aligned instruction. Developed the District Curriculum Development and Adoption Protocols, the District Grading Handbook and the District Principal Guide to Reading Instruction and Behavioral Intervention. Additional PD topics of focus include using Data to Drive Instruction, Differentiation and Scaffolding for special needs learners, Oral Language - the sixth pillar of reading, Teaching Phonological Awareness, and Inducting New Teachers to the Culture of Schenectady. State and Board of Education Reporting including the Part 154 and AMAO reports, and Quarterly Academic Progress Reports to the BOE. The District Director of Instructional Supports leads the ESL Department and the Reading Department, while working closely with a team of subject specific Coordinators to continuously improve upon the district curriculum and provide high quality Professional Development to our teachers and staff.
