THE GOOD TIMES is Well Read’s regular round-up of news and commentary for people working in the charity and voluntary sector, as well as where the Third Sector intersects with health and wellbeing, and the arts.Our focus is on celebrating good things happening in Derbyshire, but also highlighting learning from further afield. Well Read provides expert communications consultancy driven by a desire to improve people’s health, wellbeing and life chances. We also have a passion for widening access to the arts and culture and provide research, interpretation and community engagements services for heritage projects. Joined High Peak CVS as a Trustee in October 2019. The organisation supports the community and voluntary sector across the High Peak in Derbyshire through training, advice and development support. Since August 2018 has supported In The Works PR to deliver strategic PR services to build the charitable brand of the YHA (Youth Hostels Association), England and Wales.

Freelance

Well Read provided consultancy services to Ashfield District Council to support the development of a new heritage centre in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. The King and Miller to Kingfisher project has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and is being led by Ashfield District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire District Council and others. The project is being managed by Paul Crawford at Ashfield District Council.Well Read worked with Red Stone to develop an Education Pack for the centre working within their brand concept for the project.The assignment involved researching the history of the heritage site (focussing on its industrial heritage), working with local heritage groups and historians, and consulting with schools and community groups to identify their needs. We also liaised with Guy Taylor Architects, who designed the plans to modify the existing buildings on the heritage site. We mapped out and created all the interpretation content for the project with a view to creating an engaging experience for visitors.

Sheffield

In particular, delivering PR support to members and providing content for web and social media feeds. Provided corporate reputation management to the Chief Executive.

The role involved developing communications strategies for national organisations in the health sector, including developing key messages for clients and providing crisis management support.

I was responsible for managing all aspects of communications for Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity. The role involved working with grant recipients (clinicians, researchers, and associated healthcare practitioners), as well as fundraisers and donors, to promote the work of the Charity. I led on the PR for the a fundraising campaign which raised £11 million (exceeded target by £1million) for the Evelina Children’s Hospital.I worked closely with the developers, architects and housing association to communicate the proposed plans for a major regeneration project for LambethI produced a range of publications, most notably the Annual Review and Accounts. I supported the communications around a new strategic direction and funding programme, including organising stakeholder events, managing the creation of a new brand for the Charity and development of a new website.

I was responsible for managing the media strategies for numerous health and youth programmes funded with national lottery ‘good causes’ funding.I worked with government departments and other national agencies to manage communications around jointly funded programmes such as the £25 million Positive Activities for Young People Programme in collaboration with the Youth Justice Board. This programme also involved overseeing the creation of a youth-oriented website sponsored by Barclays Bank.I instigated and managed all aspects of ‘Opportunity FM’ - a dedicated three-day radio station to raise the profile of the Fund in HumbersideThe role involved close liaison with the Policy and Evaluation team to ensure the accuracy and consistency of information in line with the government’s directions on lottery spending I dealt with media on a reactive and proactive basis, including crisis management around the fatality of a participant on a NOF-funded project
