I enjoyed being a part of WCS's Public Affairs Department for more than 8 years. I wore many hats in regard to Marketing and Government/Community Affairs at the New York Aquarium as well as heading up Strategic Partnerships at WCS's global headquarters at the Bronx Zoo. I led efforts in building an international coalition of strategic partners for a campaign called 96 Elephants - so named for the number of elephants killed each day in Africa by terrorist poachers:96elephants.org. We worked on many fronts to protect elephants and to bolster security by creating awareness, developing a funding stream and supporting legislative efforts to strengthen nationwide regulations on the sale of ivory and to implement bans on the sale of ivory state by state. Prior to 96 Elephants, I helped to build a coalition of over 500 partner organizations for an initiative called, One Percent for Culture:oneforculture.org. OPC calls for an increase in funding to New York City's cultural institutions and art organizations - 1% of the annual municipal budget. Currently, only.228% is appropriated to these organizations. We are proud to say that when Mayor de Blasio took office, 75% of all City Officials had signed on in support, representing all 51 districts.
