As Senior Research Fellow for the UCL Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education (CCCSE), I contribute to all phases of research including proposal development, empirical research and data analysis, writing and impact activities. The purpose of the CCCSE is to develop research-informed support for teachers so that they can incorporate a focus of climate change and sustainability in their teaching.

The Monitoring and Evaluating Climate Communication and Education (MECCE) Project is a global partnership that aims to increase the quality and quantity of climate change education, training and public awareness to advance global climate, literacy and action. The MECCE Project aims to advance the provision of CCE globally by providing robust cross-national data available for intergovernmental and governmental target-setting and progress. The project, which is funded by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, involves nearly 80 leading experts and international agencies including the IPCC, UNFCCC, UNESCO, and Environment and Climate Change Canada, who will collaborate to address the climate crisis globally. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, I work with a globally dispersed team on a range of project research and impact activities, particularly on engagement activities with intergovernmental agencies and national Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) Focal Points. I also write academic papers, written submissions and research briefs.

"Governmentalities of climate change education in England: Perspectives from history, policy and position-holders"Amidst calls for 'more' climate change education, my PhD examined the perspectives of policy influencers on the role of education in the context of climate change. Using qualitative, interpretive research methods, my thesis explored how policy influencers have come to shape climate change education in England, asking which perspectives have come to influence policy development, and why some stakeholders have not seen their role as one of shaping climate change education.

As a Research Officer for the Sustainability Education and Policy Network (SEPN) research project I gathered data in Victorian schools and with environmental education agencies to investigate how sustainability policy and practice is realised in Victorian K-12 education. This pilot project is applying the research protocols established by SEPN in Canada, to collect and analyze comparable data across different levels of education. SEPN is an international network of researchers and organizations advancing sustainability in education policy and practice, based at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.

This research project "Communication and Connections: Inner City Learning Journeys" was undertaken for the Field Studies Council (FSC). I investigated the experience of A-Level Biology students undertaking a multi-day field studies visit to a residential field studies centre. I undertook pre- and post-visit interviews, focus groups and lesson observations, transcribed and analysed the data and produced a report with findings and recommendations for the FSC. This is one of four such sub-projects that will combine as part of the FSCs Vision Project being undertaken by King's College London. The FSC intends to use this research to help them:- Develop systems that offer greater connectivity between FSC learning locations- Achieve a significant increase in environmental understanding as a result of an FSC experience- Providing learners with consistently high quality resources to facilitate pre and post course support and engagement, and- Inspire new major initiatives to encourage first-hand experience for environmental understanding.

As manager of the Education team I led the implementation of ResourceSmart Schools across Victoria. ResourceSmart Schools, Victoria's version of the Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative, helps schools embed sustainability into everything they do via curriculum, infrastructure and community engagement. The team supports a network of regional service providers that work directly with schools, delivers an annual awards program, a professional learning program for teachers and educators, an online system that helps schools track their progress and apply for certification and develops resources and tools to help schools reduce consumption of energy and water, reduce waste and increase their biodiversity. In 2015 ResourceSmart Schools won the Banksia Education for Sustainability Award with judges noting it was best practice and world leading in its approach to sustainability education.

The primary program, ResourceSmart Schools, works with a range of educators across Victoria to embed sustainability into schools curriculum, infrastructure and operations. The litter team delivers the programs of Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria, grants and community engagement and skills development programs through the Victorian Litter Action Alliance.

The team works to increase the understanding of litter and its relationship to social, economic and environmental impacts. The team manages Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria and champions litter prevention and best practice through communication and coordinator of litter prevention activities across the state.
