Developing advice and policy proposals related to the portfolio’s interests in transitioning economies, structural change and vulnerable industries, regions and communities.

Representing Australia’s interests in key international forums, in particular the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and United Nations agencies.

Preparing, and giving, presentations to a range of audiences to assist with transitions to employment and understanding of the local labour market. The role also included designing and implementing survey modules for the Survey of Employers’ Recruitment Experiences and providing in-depth analysis of labour market conditions for various cohort.

Contributing to the development of evidence-based policy through the provision and analysis of labour market data while also producing presentations for a range of job seekers and recently retrenched workers, to assist them to better meet the needs of employers and improve their prospects.

Shaping the strategic direction of the annual skill shortage research program, and management of the Survey of Employers who have Recently Advertised

Perform Secretariat functions and provide briefings for the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers meeting in Melbourne, including bilateral meetings with the portfolio Minister. The role also included coordination of the G20 Taskforce Safer Workplaces sub-group for the Secretariat.

Conducting interviews with employers, as part of the Survey of Employers who have Recently Advertised, and industry stakeholders to improve the department’s understanding of the labour market. Also collating and analysing qualitative and quantitative data to assist in the preparation of briefings, reports and presentations.
