Kate Neylon is a producer and actor. A Murdoch University graduate with a double major Bachelor of Arts (HONS) in Theatre and Drama & Politics, Philosophy and Sociology, Kate has worked in theatre, film and television in various roles, focusing on producing in recent years. She has produced a number of films with director Pete Gleeson including the multi-awarded short documentary addressing romance and disability “Something to Tell You”, and the critically acclaimed feature documentary “Hotel Coolgardie”. Following a highly successful festival run for “Hotel Coolgardie” at Hot Docs, Slamdance & Sydney Film Festival to name a few, the team self-distributed a theatrical release across Australia and New Zealand. Hotel Coolgardie is streaming on Amazon Prime.In early 2019, she produced her first feature drama with Good Thing Productons, “Below”, a darkly comic action film set in a detention centre, directed by Maziar Lahooti and starring Ryan Corr and Anthony LaPaglia. The film premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival in August 2019 ahead of its theatrical release in 2020. Below is now available on Stan.In addition to her work in film, Kate is one of the original artists and the Executive Producer for cutting-edge tactical media arts company pvi collective (formed in 1998), developing socially engaged, politically driven digital projects for tech savvy audiences around the world. These events have featured at the Perth International Arts Festival, Sydney Biennale, Encounters Festival [Mumbai], Vrystaat Kunstfees [South Africa], Malmo Festival [Sweden], Symposium of Electronic Art [Sydney] and other major art events around the globe. For 8 years, she also managed CIA [Centre for Interdisciplinary Arts] Studios, an initiative of the company that provided subsidised studio space, masterclass opportunities and international residencies to artists and filmmakers pushing the boundaries in their specific art form.Kate is invested in the idea that stories can change the world, and in the power of art to interrogate the current political and cultural landscape in an entertaining and humourous way.
