Process Engineer
Senior Process Engineer
Worked in a multidiscipline team on various design scopes and feasibility studies for greenfield and brownfield oil and gas projects. I started here as a graduate engineer and worked up to senior engineer. Some of my significant projects and key contributions are summarised below,- Compressor Station Upgrade (Detailed Design Phase): Led process design for a New Zealand natural gas compressor station upgrade, designing gas side tie-ins for two new compressors and optimising emissions reduction during compressor startup and shutdown. I was responsible for process deliverables: P&IDs, reports, equipment sizing, HAZOP, LOPA, Control philosophy, Shutdown Philosophy, and supporting procurement. - Gas Pressure Reduction and Metering Stations (EPC Projects): Led post-HAZOP process design and served as lead commissioning engineer. Closing out the process design and developing the control philosophy for remote operation, implementing feedforward pressure control to meet the downstream demands. Following the design phase, I was based onsite for 2 months managing commissioning activities. I received the Verbrec Way Award for my contributions to innovation, teamwork, and delivery.- Water Hammer and Surge Assessments: Analysis of systems handling condensate, water, geothermal brines, and slurries, providing solutions to mitigate transient impacts. Assessing overpressure, cavitation and pressure losses throughout different systems, during normal operating conditions, equipment failure scenarios and emergency shutdown cases.- Tank Farm Assessment: Bund capacity and sizing for secondary and tertiary containment, weirs, and extensions. Generating case studies for new storage tank locations, optimising size and space to meet the required separating distances.
Process Engineer
As a process engineer, I supported senior engineers in various aspects of project delivery, including technical calculations, reports, simulations, P&IDs, and HAZOPs. Over time, I took on my own design scopes, with the most notable project being the design of two remotely operated pressure reduction and metering stations in Australia. I led the process design post-HAZOP, managing action closeouts and developing the control and shutdown philosophies. Following the design phase, I acted as the lead commissioning engineer for both projects, supporting planning, scheduling, and preparing all commissioning procedures. I spent two months onsite in Australia overseeing and completing commissioning activities, and coordinating with the project manager to ensure the correct personnel and vendor representatives were available as needed.
Graduate Process Engineer
As a graduate engineer, I supported the other process engineers in our team in completing different deliverables; - Line sizing and pressure loss calculations- Pressure relief valve and emergency vent sizing (API 520 / 521 / 2000)- Heating studies (Insulation removal, bath heater temperature degradation after trip)- Process simulation (Natural gas storage/transport/treatment systems, ammonia, water, methanol)- Process safety time calculations (High pressure gas systems - Compressor stations and Natural gas transmission stations)- Drawing development: P&IDs, PFDs, PSFSs- Scribing HAZOPs and design reviews (Natural gas systems, utility systems, CIP, Dairy)- Developed a Fugitive Emissions Estimate Tool for methane and CO2 emissions, following industry guidelines. Calculating an estimate based on the number of assets, maintenance frequency and gas composition.
Intern Process Engineer
In this role I was based onsite in a multidiscipline design team, upgrading / debottlenecking a pharmaceutical site in Wellington, New Zealand. My responsibility was the revalidation and resizing of all pressure relief valves and bursting discs onsite, for the main process fluids and utility systems, to ensure they met industry standards.
