I was a mentor of trainee teachers undertaking school-based initial teacher training. The role involved liaising with other supervising teachers within the department as well as delivering subject specific training sessions for other subject trainees. I gave constructive feedback post-observation and identified trainee strengths and specific targets for development. I found opportunities for coaching conversations so that the trainee could identify their own solutions, providing feel a sense of ownership and empowerment.
