International Liaison/Administrator
CurrentAs International Liaison, I manage relationships with international members and guest surgeons and interact with outside organizations and other College divisions to link necessary services (e.g. Executive Office, Communications, Patient Education, Development, Conventions). Accomplishments include: • Proposed improvements to committee nomination process, reduction of committee size, and streamlined committee protocols. Recommendations were accepted and instituted by the College’s International Relations Committee (IRC).• Re-engineered processes to reduce the IRC’s operating budget by increasing use of Internet.• Simplified processes and placed promotional brochures online to reduce costs and more effectively promote international scholarship and outreach programs. Also, translated (Spanish) or obtained gratis translations for documents. • Seamlessly added two additional foreign exchange programs to ongoing Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) fellowship and expanded International Guest Scholarships program, and launched new outreach initiative to international sister surgical societies.As Administrator, Scholarships Section, I manage all aspects of $2M+ annual North American scholarships program; interface with specialty surgical societies regarding multiple shared scholarships; write and edit requirements brochures and magazine and newsletter articles; contribute to the College’s annual report and work extensively with the ACS Foundation. Accomplishments include:• Implemented new Scholarship Executive Subcommittee and improved organizational structure and program, saving time and reducing travel and hospitality budget by 60%.• Streamlined Scholarship Committee operating budget through eliminating obsolete programs and increasing use of Internet to publicize offerings.• Launched two large scholarship programs with no additional staff.
