Kate is an experienced pharmacist with an interest in optimising medication usage in vulnerable populations, including those living on the margins, the elderly, people living with dementia and First Nations people. Kate has a breadth of experience across the health care system; working in hospital, general practice, homeless health care, aged care, Aboriginal health and academia. Kate is a strong advocate for improving the way healthcare is delivered to vulnerable people, having been involved in implementing several health transformation projects aiming to deliver high quality healthcare in challenging environments. Kate was proudly awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia's WA Early Career Pharmacist award in May 2021 for her contribution to progressing the pharmacist profession. Other career highlights include working as a pharmacist in the multidisciplinary Street Doctor team, providing mobile healthcare in a culturally safe environment to the homeless and vulnerable community in Perth. Being engaged as a senior research assistant in an NHMRC funded research project aiming to improve brain health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations through UWA. As well as being a consultant pharmacist with Dementia Training Australia; overseeing quality improvement activities in Residential Aged Care Facilities across the country to reduce the rates of inappropriate prescribing in people living with dementia. Kate is passionate about education and mentorship, and continues to provides mentorship for other pharmacists and pharmacy students around Australia.
