About Katelyn Beissert

Hello! I’m Katelyn – an environmentalist, visual storyteller, and aspiring Adobe wizard. Motivated by a desire to create a greener, more sustainable future for everyone, I am interested in using digital media to engage audiences on social and environmental issues. I am currently making a difference by working as the Research Communications Officer for Cure Parkinson's - a charity dedicated to finding treatments able to slow, stop, or reverse the progression of Parkinson's.Originally from the US, I moved to London in 2021 to pursue my MSc in Science Communication at Imperial College London. This was following the completion of my BSc in Biology and Environmental Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I focused my studies on climate change and biodiversity conservation. Despite coming from a STEM background, videography, specifically video editing, has been a long-time passion of mine. With 10 years of experience, I am always looking to improve my skills, taking advantage of any opportunity for learning that comes my way. This includes my time working for my undergraduate university's TV organization and some extra coursework in film production. Ever the problem-solver, I enjoy challenging myself to push the boundaries of what I can produce.Recognizing the potential for video content in environmental communication, I have sought to combine my interests by using motion graphic animations to present science topics. This has led me to produce videos for several science organizations. These projects have been a high point for me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with these teams to find innovative and creative ways to bring their ideas to life.
