Kate Mason work experience

Nova Broadcast Research Intern
Working with the NOVA team at GBH, I conducted fact-checking research on documentary film scripts for programs that were currently in development for broadcast, ensuring that all the information provided within narration and expert sound bites was supported by ample and reputable sources. I also reviewed past documentary films that were scheduled for rebroadcast and identified information that was no longer up-to-date and/or had since been subject to significant developments. Additionally, I assisted in funder vetting processes, assessing and identifying potential conflicts of interest between the funders and participants of broadcast documentary films. Throughout the internship, I participated in regular editorial, staff, and documentary development meetings for both the digital and broadcast NOVA teams. I also researched and produced a media environment scan and list of potential participants for a possible film pitch, as well as aided in writing a brief overview of the film pitch.
Explore Program Student Leader / N.U.In Mentor
I acted as key contact for 4 to 8 Explore Program N.U.in students while they are abroad. I guided the students through developing a strategic plan for academic and experiential engagement and connected them with appropriate campus resources. In addition, I scheduled virtual meetings with students to talk about their exploration, academic interests, and spring course registration and facilitated effective 1:1 and group conversations.
Cephalopod Co-Op Aquarist
Working within the Cephalopod Program, I executed daily feeding, cleaning, and maintenance of live cephalopod enclosures, as well as assisted with routine assessment rounds to check tank conditions, animal health, and life support systems status. Additionally, I managed cephalopod broodstock populations, harvested eggs, raised hatchlings, and designed cephalopod enclosures. I recorded population, mortality, and food consumption data as well. I also assisted in the training of visiting researchers on basic cephalopod care regarding enclosure set-up, feeding, and healthy behavioral expectations. Furthermore, I designed a small research project of my own, in which I was tasked with creating and conducting multiple experimental set-ups to determine whether a new, less expensive food source could be used for the cephalopods.
