I’m currently serving as the Associate Director on Bookmobile Fredericksburg's Executive Board. I also serve as a Council Leader for the partnership that the Bookmobile has with COAR (Community Outreach and Resources). I wear many different hats since this organization started this year in August. Together the staff coordinates events, reaches out to potential partners and places to have events, as well as organizing book pick ups. There are many projects currently in the works at Bookmobile Fredericksburg, that will be coming out earlier next year (2022).

VA21 Student Leaders ignite and inspire civic engagement to highlight the needs of their generation. Virginia 21 Student Leaders directly support and serve their fellow students and are tasked with creating a culture of civic engagement on their campus.

As a COAR Council leader, I have the following responsibilities: working with community partners (Bookmobile Fredericksburg) to set up volunteer opportunities for students as well as publicizing the volunteer experience of both myself and those who give their time for our weekly program or on service days on social media to recruit other students. In addition I am also van certified so they can drive students to the volunteer site if need be. As well as attending COARientation in the fall, 1 office hour per week in the COAR office during the semester, and monthly COAR Council meetings. Council Leaders support COAR’s annual campus-wide programs: Into the Streets, Head Start Gift Box Drive, Good Neighbor Day, Spring Forward Festival.

Democracy Fellows talk to their peers about registering to vote, educate them on election laws and what’s on the ballot, and make sure students at their campus are ready to engage with democracy. Fellows are not only engaging their peers in the next upcoming election. We’ve challenged our fellows to implement programs on each of their campuses that will remain long after they graduate and make an impact on students for years to come.

I worked on educating voters, registration, and the mobilization of civic engagement activities. I also worked on social media, online/virtual, events, as well as educational materials. In addition, I learned about the new laws related to voting in Virginia as well as voting patterns among student, and Virginia citizens, plus issues relating to voter turnout. I am now the head of the Voter Registration/GOTV group within UMW Votes.
