In the past year at BlackTree Healthcare Consulting, I have acquired knowledge of the revenue cycle for home health and hospice agencies. From patient intake, insurance verification, visit documentation, orders and referrals, OASIS assessments, ICD-10 coding, claim billing, collections, and follow up, I have been able to take part in all steps of the revenue cycle during my time as a consulting analyst. This exposure has enabled me to understand the big picture and goals of a revenue department and guide me to take on leadership characteristics required to lead a team to success. Additionally, I have become a subject matter expert at claim appeals, Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare and VA insurance billing and reimbursement, Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and exposure to both McKesson and Home Care Home Base EMR systems. This expertise originates from analyzing over 12,000 patient accounts over the course of 1 year for discrepancies in health insurance payments and denials on behalf of my home health client. For the same client, I have recovered and collected over $6.5 million by discovering data and payer trends when analyzing account receivable balances and credit balances left in patient accounts. While working with data trends and insurance claims, I also have the responsibility of working with the client to listen and understand issues, gather necessary requirements, and take action to ensure that appropriate steps and knowledge are communicated back in order to improve their revenue cycle.

During my internship with RMEI Medical Education, I was exposed to the industry of medical education for patients, physicians, family members, and other healthcare professionals. RMEI works directly with non-profit clients such as Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation to create continuing medical education programs for medical professionals to earn American Medical Association credits required to continue medical licenses. RMEI offers continuing medical education in different platforms such as online courses, regional live meetings, symposiums, and live webcasts. As an intern, I supported the management of four live webcasts and three regional continuing medical education symposiums. To help market to potential learners, I aided in designing and creating brochures, email blasts, text blasts, mailing cards, and registration websites. It was also in my responsibilities to find a target audience based on the program being marketed.I assembled and presented a business strategy for the CEO to grow social media presence in order to attract prospective employees and clients. I managed Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn while also keeping the RMEI website up to date with current CME activities. I was given the opportunity to obtain hands on experience by directly communicating with clients and providing them with weekly status reports and updates. Interned with CSRA LLC during the solution delivery, testing, and end user training phase of an SAP consulting project for the Department of Defense (DoD). Was responsible for designing and maintaining a simulated desktop for secure training databases and materials. This part of the U.S. Army Logistics Modernization Program (LMP) was an ongoing support phase which aided the user in navigating and learning the updated and improved SAP system which was designed based on the business and technical requirements gathered during client meetings. I was given the opportunity to work with technical support in developing and modifying current training materials to meet DoD standards. What began as a plan to modernize Army supply chain management evolved into one of the largest, fully integrated supply chain and maintenance, repair, and overhaul solutions in the world. The training materials and tools that were created now guide over 4,000 users. Today, the LMP manages $4.5 billion worth of inventory, processes transactions with 50,000 vendors, and integrates with more than 80 DOD systems.

Interned with CSC during the implementation phase of a SAP consulting project for the DoD (Department of Defense). As part of the Logistics Modernization Program for the DoD, I was responsible for modifying test scripts for SAP in Microsoft Excel to include release strategies to meet multi-level authorization criteria. Test scripts included the testing scenario, test date, steps, step descriptions, expected results, business requirements covered and technical requirements covered. Additionally, from the outcomes of these automated tests in SAP, I was responsible for creating Pivot Tables to better organize large sums of data collected across various departments in the DoD. Throughout this Internship, I had the opportunity to participate in Lunch and Learns on networking, emerging research, and big data/cyber security. At the end of my three months with CSC, I was put in charge of compiling an updated ABAP Dictionary for SAP. The ABAP Dictionary is used to create and manage metadata, permitting a central description of all the data used in the system without redundancies.
