After beginning with no bar experience, I was promoted to the single supervisor role in this city centre pub after only six months of work. I was hired upon the pub's opening as part of a small team, and learned on the job. Duties included general bar/customer service, taking stock and restocking, cashing up, cash handling, close down and cleaning. I was entrusted to act as temporary manager on a number of occasions during my year of work in the absence of other staff members. This included setting alarms and locking up.In my role as Head of Promotions and Social Media, I increased the reach of the pub's Facebook posts by up to 500% utilising Facebooks ads. I also helped to organise and promote medium-scale events (e.g. themed parties, DJ nights, live band performances).

I walked to the Bromsgrove office each day to work (unpaid) during my free periods and break times. This included writing short newspaper pieces, taking phone calls, and more general admin work.
